A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. Through Our Tears The Soul Speaks

Devotional Titled Through Our Tears The Soul Speaks

Tears are a beautiful and necessary part of life. They are as unique to every individual as a fingerprint or a snowflake. Every tear released in seasons of joy, grief, disappointment, anguish, and relief represents the showers into the garden of a living soul. Our tears carry the imprint of our story as we live and bloom through the adversities and victories of life.

As children of God, we often communicate with Him through prayer. It is both a mental and emotional process of sharing ourselves with Him. We communicate with Him also in written form, for this too allows us to speak with Him deeply. But we don't always think of our tears as a method of communication. We see our tears as expressions of the sentiments we hold in side but sometimes they are a better communicator than our words for they can synthesize and articulate what sometimes we don't fully understand. Tears in joys and sorrows release our story and our emotions in such a special way that only the One who created us can interpret and fully grasp.

God is thoughtful, as He is insightful. He created us knowing we have limitations, for we are not Him. Therefore, as a living souls, we are not even aware of how to fully operate or express ourselves, but God remains aware of our experiences in this life. He has built in mental, physical, and emotional communicators for us to learn and to speak to Him from. There is not a part of our being that does not communicate with God. Our tears are no different.

We must thank God for the tears of release and the communicators of our most deepest selves. Through our tears, the soul speaks a language of our history here, the strain of growth and transformation and the joy of hopes fulfilled. Tears express the challenges of elevating our thinking and our behaviors to meet God's expectations and the art of being renewed when the soul and spirit have become weary.

Tears bind us to our Creator in such an intimate and private way. Our tears assure us that we are our truest selves in the presence of God. In the secret garden of our soul, watered by our tears, God dwells. No part of the journey is lost when our tears are speaking, because God is listening.

Dear Lord, I thank you that my tears are telling my story better than my words. For I know that you really do know me, my struggles, and my joys. I desire to feel more connected to you and now this is another way to grow in closeness with you, for you hold my heart and you hold my tears.

Now it is your turn to let your soul speak. Are you giving yourself permission to let your tears flow and speak to God? Let your soul speak freely on the pages and then, if the tears come, let them continue to speak for you! God bless you!
