A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

Iron Saints

There are no weak saints in the body of Christ. Saints can become weary and worn from the incessant trials of life, but they themselves are not weak. Often times we read and study the characters of the Bible for precedence and truth. Precedence in that we can identify real people who experienced great hardships that lead us to the truth that, in God, these ordinary people found victory in their perseverance to overcome.

Present day, there is a slew of witnesses in the continuing story of the Bible. Saints all over the world and very near to you are traversing through great hardships, some well known to others and those that are battled in secret. Battles are raging all around, but the iron saint is one who endures whether their fight is seen or fought behind closed doors.

What is so unique about this community of iron saints is that they themselves do not consider themselves great. They would not consider themselves on par with the characters of the Bible we so reverence and admire. But the truth is, as they were, so are we, because as He did, so He performs today. We are a great people fashioned and buckled in the spirit of the living God. It is through the Holy Ghost and our relationship with the Father that gives us our iron will to press on, to keep on, to live on, while we suffer.

Iron saints are not weak despite the feeling of wanting to quit. Giving up is not in their spiritual DNA. We all know this to be true when we witness or hear the testimonies of those suffering through the effects of bullying, foreclosure, Cancer, or mental attacks. There are no shortages of trials, nor is their any shortages of people attached to those trials who have an iron will to conquer that which has them bound.

I witnessed the press of an iron saint recently when my mom labored in and out of great distress. I found her in moments of great pain begin to sing. When she felt great despair, she prayed the sweetest prayer to the One she loves most. Witnessing such despair, I marveled at her tenacity and grit to reach out and to cling to the One who holds her life, her love, and her rescue. And she is not alone. God is establishing chapter after chapter with each of our names that includes the testimonies of our iron will to cling to Him and to our victories in Him.

Let us all take the time to honor our own stories and those of others who are fighting a good fight. Let us thank God for the fortification to win despite the bondage we face. May God continue to out pour His Spirit of strength and endurance into the family of iron saints.

Now it’s your turn to let your soul speak. Grab your pen and pad and share your testimony of not                     giving into the trials of life but fighting through them with a great determination, leaning on the Holy Ghost that lives within. Share your story and give thanks for the power to never quit.
