Serving With A Broken Heart
Have you ever been blindsided by an event that left you heartbroken and disenchanted? Have you ever found yourself in such a place of despair that you felt lost and unsure how to move forward?
There are some pains and some experiences of trauma that leave you so wounded and bewildered that you can lose who you are and what you are meant to achieve. If you are not careful, the repercussions can threaten to leave you broken and unproductive, naturally and in the things of God. God never promised that things would be easy in this life. We discover over time that there are different degrees of trials, and of pain.
Pain can be debilitating. A consequence of pain is that it can cause one to operate more carefully and with trepidation. It can cause one to shy away and shrink from living boldly and free in the world. Pain has a memory, and once it is experienced our senses seek to prevent us from ever being wounded again. But we are given a charge in the midst of our pain. We must serve even with a broken heart. We must fight the ability to allow pain to change our character and our impact in the world. We must not let our broken hearts encourage us to sit on our gifts and talents and our missions in life.
We must speak to our pain and commune with God often for strength, healing, and comfort. We must seek diligently ways in which we can operate in power and wisdom and not from our wounds. We are made to be an overcomer in and through all dyer situations that we encounter. We have the capacity to suffer and still produce great things. We can be broken hearted and still be a light in a dark space. We can endure the pain we face and not allow the pain to have rule over us with the help of God, God's word, and God's people.
Many great things can be produced out of great hardships. It is not a path that is desired but a path that can be overcome. So, if you find yourself in a dark place of trial and circumstance what will your pain produce? How will you be a beacon of good will and kindness even with a broken heart? How will you seek to draw closer to the One who can help you to cope and to conquer?
Journal Entry: Dear Lord, I feel like you are requiring things of me I cannot achieve. Why do you feel I can handle and produce good things while not giving into the pain and despair that I feel? It feels so unfair to live and operate well when I am hurting so. Nevertheless, I give you another yes, and trust that in you I can indeed still live with integrity and in the character of you and not operate out the wounds of my heart and spirit. Please hold my hand and light my path so that I don't sit in my pain only, but lead me to victory through my pain.
Now it's your turn to let your soul speak. Grab your pen and journal and share the pain of your heart but don't stop there. Seek this time to engage in a written prayer seeking Gods help to do a great work despite the current pain you face. Share your journey of overcoming on the pages! Happy Journaling!
