A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

Refilled and Renewed From Within

The Lord states, that as the body of Christ, we are fitly joined together to not only do the work of the Lord but to minister, one toward another. Do you feel seen? Do you feel heard? Do you feel like you are connected soul fitly joined with others in the body of Christ? Do you seek out the church and its members to be the remedy and or the answer to the questions and challenges of life, both naturally and spiritually?

Sometimes there is an assumption that because we are seen that we feel apart. And for some people, they can love Christ but do not feel apart of the community of Believers. In a world of branding and identity it is imperative that people are not simply identifying as a Believer and not reaping any of the supportive and collective benefits of being one.

There is a press to be more inclusive in the ways people are seen, engaged, and supported. Isolation and the pursuance of ones own duties and responsibilities may lend one to see past the needs of those we are supposed to help.  Living  a life as a Believer is to be a light to the world but we are not to neglect those in the household of faith. If anything, we are to be the pillars of encouragement and wisdom, readily available and willing to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters. The house of God should be the place where answers are found and comfort is received.

Life is hard. It is challenging for everybody. But God in his infinite wisdom did not leave us comfortless and he did not leave us without help. Each of us holds the power and the ability to see and to meet needs. The world is not the only one's who need desperate attention. There is a great need within the household of faith for us to be angels of hope, of understanding, of strength, of love to one another. The practice of loving and supporting one another should be at its greatest within the community of Believers and then radiating out towards the world.

God has endowed each of us with skills and talents. In life, as in the church we are not meant to know everything. We are to seek out and work in collaboration with others to accomplish our goals. Imagine how transformative our church and our individual lives could be if we shared the gifts and talents God has blessed us with, with each other.  We must fulfill our great commission of winning souls but we must also minister to meet the emotional, spiritual, and practical everyday needs of our brothers and sisters.

If the community of Believers could take the time to get to know each other and to share their varying skills and knowledge, then the body of Believers could build and support one another from within. Then the church could become even more, a place of hope and a place of answers. Imagine what greater ambassadors for the kingdom we could be if we felt seen, heard, and assisted both naturally and spiritually?

The charge is to strengthen the brethren, but in order to do that you must be in relation with them. There are great needs to be filled that are going unfilled and unnoticed. God has given us the power to link arm and arm with each other so that we never feel alone while on this journey. So, each one, love one and share what you know so that together the body of Christ can be refilled and renewed from within, as they press on living for Christ.

Now it's your turn to let your soul speak.

Grab your journal and share how you will use your gifts and talents to help your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ!
