A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

Forgive The You You Used To Be

#heardanduplifted #soulspeak #devotional

God is a God of instruction and examples. He lived a life always pressing forward to achieve His purpose and goal.  He can be found telling us that at times in our lives, we will have to leave the things of the past in order to go towards and fully be present in the things He has ahead. The question of today is have you reflected on the you of the past? Have you showered yourself in the grace of God to truly forgive yourself for who and what you were in the past, or are you still holding on to past hurts, disappointment's, and shame?

In many of our stories it is painful to look backwards. Over time we have matured and we know we are not who we used to be, but we often time choose not to look deeper into the root causes. However, if we fail to look back to offer grace and fully forgive the person of who we were due to insecurity, lack of guidance, fear, or simply because we operated out of our broken places, we can run the risk of never moving into the places God has for us. It's imperative that we lay our past selves on the altar. Its on the altar that we can anoint ourselves with the remedy of grace and forgiveness that God has already shed His blood and provided a healing for. If we fail to apply the blood and forgive ourselves, we waste the precious gift and hinder our progress of going forward in Him.

There is a great destiny that awaits us all. We live today, mindful and eager to live as God has taught us to do, but it is time now to bury and leave behind the pains of our past selves. There is an abundance of grace and healing for those who will take the time to reflect, pray, and to release the errors of the past. The person of the past had to be in order for the new you to be birthed. So, forgive the past you so you can fully be present and whole in the new place God is taking you to.

Journal Entry: Lord thank you for your patience with me. I am learning as time goes by, that everything does work together for my good, even my past. It hurts for me to look back at the things that I have done and believed. I really was broken and unknowing of a better way. I see today that you were with me even then so that one day I could look back and thank you for letting me see the me I have become. But my heart is heavy as you are gently pushing me to let go of the memories and shame of my past.

So, today with your help, I forgive the me that was hurt and made poor choices, who lived life full of insecurity, and who lacked wisdom and guidance and I walk in the fullness and wholeness that I am not my past mistakes. Thank you for the chance to walk firmly and fully into the path you have destined for me free from the bondage of my past. I truly forgive the me I used to be and can't wait to meet the me I am destined to be!
