A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

Do You Have Unclaimed Gifts Waiting For You In Jesus Treasure Box?

What if each of us had a treasure box with each of our names on it, would you be curious to see what is held inside? Well, Jesus is that treasure box and in Him holds many unclaimed gifts and provisions that He seeks to release unto His beloved children.

This is the season known for the giving and receiving of gifts. It is a spiritually uplifting time of year even when things are dark and challenging.  This time of year inspires and motivates us to seek the good in people and to seek to do good to those closest to us and to those with the deepest need. But for God, the season of giving and receiving is all year round.

God seeks to be our everything. In Him we can tell our deepest secrets and our deepest needs and He not only holds them but works on our behalf to help us heal and obtain deliverance.  In Him we find peace, security,  and provisions but we often forget that we have treasures that are stored in heaven to bring us not just out of our trials and circumstances but to relish in the joy of unwrapping and enjoying those unexpected and sincere gifts from our heavenly father.

God is the ultimate gift giver and He delights in seeing His children joyous and surprised by the gifts He has personally selected and individually wrapped and set aside with their names on it.  These gifts are stored and specifically assigned and waiting for the time God can shower them upon His earthly and most prized treasures.

So, what lies within your treasure box that sits unclaimed and unused? What dreams and desires do you have that you believe you could never have and therefore do not petition the Lord with?  Has your trust in God diminished to the point that you don't believe any more good things will ever come your way so you don't seek Him and rely on Him like you used to? Have you felt contentment with your current provisions and therefore  don't want to rock the boat so you stop yourself from aspiring for more knowledge, more grace, more joy, more patience, more understanding, more leadership?

God wants to remind us that He delights in fulfilling the spoken request of His children and He also delights in increasing them and showering them with unexpected gifts as they strive to want to be close to Him seeking to reach higher heights and deeper depths of service for His kingdom and His glory.  There are unclaimed gifts that God seeks to shower us with, those in which we requested and those we acquire for living righteously and bringing delight and pride to the Master.

In this season of gifts and gift giving let's remember the ultimate giver of our earthly and spiritual treasures. Let's examine our hearts and our relationship with God so that we can align ourselves to His ways so that He feels empowered to release the gifts stored in heaven that already has our names on it.

Journal Prompt

Lord, thank you for your selection and storage of treasures you have laid up specifically to benefit and to bring joy to my life. Thank you for reminding me that you are the ultimate gift giver and that you delight in showering me with your goodness. Lord, I desire every good thing you have in store for me and I don't want anything to go unclaimed and unused. Help me to treasure you and to honor you with my life and my service and in turn watch you unload the blessings you have set aside just for me!
