A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

Do you know the difference between being humble and being insecure? Do you feel the need to lessen your skills and abilities in order to keep the peace or to keep yourself from being seen? For many people there is a real struggle to walk boldly and confidently in who and how God made and equipped them to be.  Some skills are acquired over time and some are just inherently given and accessible. For those who seek to be successful but not seen as attention seekers or arrogant this can be a challenge and source of great discomfort and stress.

It is often quoted that we are fearfully and wonderfully made but no one wants to be around a self-centered person and therefore people find themselves not walking or operating in the fullness of their God given gifts. Despite this being a real issue with real consequences Believers must remember and esteem higher the pleasing of God and not the misunderstanding and shortcomings of man. It is imperative that each of us with the spirit of the living God living on the inside of us do not diminish the light and the abilities God has bestowed upon us. It is imperative that we do not minimize our influence, our strategies, our communications, our creativities to the small mindedness and the negative opinions of others.

As a Believer you must know your own heart, know the intentions and motivations behind what you do and how you do it, and be confident that what you do and how you do it is for the glory of God and you seek to please Him regardless of how others view your efforts.  As you operate boldly in the world unaplogetic that you are the way you are and can do what you can not by mistake but by design and with the authority of God the world and you yourself will be greatly rewarded. For God has goals He seeks to accomplish in and through you but if you sit on your gifts you sit on the mission of God and hinder its progress.

So, stop hiding, stop diminishing your greatness. Let the world see you in all of your glory so that God can be glorified through you. Hold your head up, let your gifts work for you freely without restraint and be confident in all that see you for it is not an accident your great...your great by design!

Journal Prompt Reflections:

Dear Lord I find myself not operating in the fullness of how you made me and in the fullness of my purpose. Lord, why is it easier to want to please man than to please you? Lord how do I take hold of seeing myself as you see me and to live in boldness and confidence? Help me Lord to know and believe that I was designed great on purpose!
