A Crowned Thorn

What is the value of a thorn in our Christian journey? First, we must identify what a thorn is. According to the Dictionary one definition describes a thorn as “a source of continual annoyance or trouble”. A thorn can cause an immediate pain from its puncture or it can cause constant irritation and distress. Thorns that appear as a source of trouble are usually not welcomed companions on our daily quest. But the thorns we encounter are useful despite their irritations and disruptions. Thorns come to challenge and to strengthen your faith, your character, and your witness as a child of God. Thorns are the mechanism from which you gain more than you lose. Thorns are the pathway to reaching higher heights and deeper depths of sanctification and glory. With each thorn that attaches itself to your life, you become more and more like Christ. You become an overcomer of the thing that came to irritate or to disrupt your growth, but it, in turn, propels you into greater achievement in holy livi...

A Scarred Heart

What does it take to value the plight, the story, the lived experiences and tragedies of someone’s life? The story of the loss of life we all witnessed this week is not a new story, the difference is that the world was still enough to absorb it. There was no way to brush it aside because of our busy schedules and activities.  What does the life of another mean to you?  Do you ever find yourself curious and yet respectful of the plight others in this world are facing or are you only concerned with and aware of what happens in your immediate circle of friends and family?
Despite this being a critical time in space we are all living in it doesnt change the fact that it is still filled with the grace of God. His grace is providing an opportunity  for us to expose our hearts and our beliefs towards our fellow man.  He is gracing us with a chance to engage in dialogue with ourselves to discover if  we really believe that every life has a value and a right to live free.  Do we really believe that harm and poverty and injustice is always justified because they must have done something to deserve it? Do we really not want to consider and or value the life of your fellow man because deep inside you don’t believe they are equal to you?  Are you one that does not believe in violence or disrespecting another because of the color of their skin but you do believe in and support policies that do?
There are scarred hearts in the body of Christ.  How can we fully be and operate in the love of the Lord if we hold beliefs and prejudices we will not acknowledge and lay at the foot of the Master to heal?  God is calling for us to be better people. God is giving us a mirror into what we’ve allowed, ignored, and perpetuated in our hearts and in our actions.  Let us take this time of stillness to purge the things that are not of God so that we can then begin to live out our mandate to be ambassadors of Christ but not any kind of ambassador but an ambassador filled with the capacity to truly love their brothers and sisters as themselves. It is only those who can then model to the rest of the world how to live in respect and harmony with all people.  It is time to elevate our awareness and our care for others outside of our circle. To care about the plight of others and join the fight for love, justice, and equality for all.  We've been given a chance as Believers to purge the ills on our hearts that keep us from seeing, valuing, and fighting for our fellow man. The church is suffering and the world is suffering without the representation from the Believers on how to live and truly love one another.
Journal Entry: Take the time to examine your heart and identify areas of your life that do not mirror God. Examine your prejudices and judgments about people who are different and lay them at the Masters feet.  Seek out a spiritual person who embodies the love of Christ with all men to be a mentor and supporter to help you grow and become a true lover of all mankind.
